Throughout England and Wales there were almost 5,000 compulsory liquidations and CVLs (creditors voluntary liquidations) in total recorded for the last quarter of 2008 according to the h.m. insolvency service figures. In the year ending quarter 4 2008, approximately one out of every 150 supposedly healthily trading companies (nearly 1 per cent) saw the liquidator's gavel compared with the previous quarter when 1 in every 165 of active companies went into liquidation.
